Bennett Roth-Newell joins the Walt Hern Jazz Project as featured pianist, Dennis Kong on bass, Walt Hern on drums and some of the Bay area's best jazz vocalists who will rotate each week.
Guest musicians, arrive early and sign up to perform - you will get plenty of stage time. Vocalists, please bring charts for the band. Guitarists, please bring a small amp. Thùy Linhh has been singing jazz since 1990. Self-taught, and drawn to jazz by the classic voices of ella fitzgerald, sarah vaughan, billie holiday, nat king cole, and louis armstrong, this 4 foot 11 inch singer possesses a surprisingly low-pitch that glides warmly between lyrical sensuality and pensive nostalgia. she credits her love of singing to the melodious songs she heard growing up in her vietnamese community. and she credits her unique style and exotic sound to a most unusual personal history for a singer of american jazz. currently, she is creating original compositions in collaboration with her best friend, the poet bashou. the first series, Lotus Child: survivors of human trafficking rise to greatness!, honors human trafficking survivors supported by pacific links foundation. the second series, Lady Moon: the irrepressible H? Xuân H??ng - 18th century feminist poet!, celebrates the untamed spirit of HXH’s erotic poetry.
Aviel Reynoso
Aviel is a neo-soul and jazz singer/songwriter from San Jose, CA. Hailing from a very musical family, she has been singing since she could talk, and grew up in choirs and musical theatre. She is a classically trained vocalist who has been featured on several hip-hop & neo-soul projects but her passion has always remained in jazz. Her sultry, powerful voice and eclectic style is sure to delight music fans of all ages & genres!
Ren Geisick
Ren grew-up in Los Gatos, California where she developed a love for music throughchurch and school . After High School, she moved on to Cal-State Long Beach and the Bob ColeConservatory of Music where she graduated with a degree in Jazz Vocal Performance. In 2010, Renwas a recipient of an Ella Fitzgerald Scholarship and was awarded Outstanding Undergraduate JazzVocalist by Downbeat Magazine. In May of 2011, Ren set sail on the Carnival Inspiration for a sixmonth contract as the “Showband Vocalist”. Now she is back in the bay area and enjoying all the bay
Terri Lyn Roach
Terri Lyn... Mixing her Detroit roots with Gospel and Smooth Jazz with R & B and Rock, she's earned the name, "Ms. Motown". A writer, arranger and producer, her sultry voice has won numerous competitions and awards. "Whatever talent I possess is God-given. And He didn't give it to me for me. I must share it and promote it to others..."
The Walt Hern Jazz Project continue the Pro-Jazz Jam as part of Monday Jazz. Guest musicians come early and sign up to play. You will get plenty of stage time. Guests vocalist, please bring your charts for the band and guitarists, please bring a small amp. NOTE: The core of our group is Dennis Kong and Walt Hern. We will rotate pianists, vocalists and possibly horn players on a weekly basis.
All the players are well experienced at hosting jam sessions and welcome players at all levels of experience to join in. Guitarists, please bring a small amp to use when you sit in.
